We need to know who, what, where, when and why but even the greatest philosopher throughout time have yet to give a clear and definite answer to this question, what is art? <br>A great number of people have tried to clarify this mysterious three letter word from the great philosopher Plato to the American art critic Clement Greenberg's, each composing many definitions and theories. According to the Fall 2007 Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Definition of Art, by Thomas Adajan, "the definition of art is controversial... whether art can be defined has also been a matter of controversy." The greater number of ways art can be defined are through the means of tradional, conventional, institutional, historical and aesthtics. Art has been defined for the puropose to communciate, entertain, express political change, socially inquire, propagandate, comomercialize and as a means of psycological healing. Art has been sub-catagoized into style, genre, elements and principles. The curse of this word has risen from the fact that artistic works have extsited for thousands of years spawning our desire to make sense of arts importance and its manifesting change. <br><b>What is Art?</b> Art is composed of three letters to create a word, a spoken word, a signed word, a word so deep and complex in meaning that even the highest, most elite of phiolophers and theoriest can not define it. Yet, there is a defintion, a clearly defined meaning of art. However, it is not accesable to the world nor written on paper or spoken in words, you can't touch it and you can't see it. It lies within each indvidual, it is an order of thought, emotion and opponion. Art is what you make of , the definiton of art lies within the indvidual. <br> <b>"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
